Daughtery Gets Life

Broward Circuit Judge Cynthia Imperato sentenced Thomas Daugherty, 19, to life in prison for his part in the beating death of a homeless man in 2006.
Convicted last month of second-degree murder, Daugherty, of Plantation, learned his sentence Thursday afternoon.
Daugherty was one of two Broward youths caught on video walloping Jacques Pierre with a baseball bat as he scrambled on the ground trying to fend off the blows.
The attack on Pierre at the Las Olas Boulevard campus of Florida Atlantic University in Fort Lauderdale was the first of three attacks on homeless men in the early morning hours of Jan. 12, 2006.
Pierre, 60, survived. So did the third victim, Raymond Perez, 52. Norris Gaynor, 45, did not.
Broward County jurors convicted Daugherty and Brian Hooks of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder for the string of unprovoked attacks.
Daugherty’s co-defendant, Brian Hooks, 20, will be sentenced Friday.
